INFORMATION!
The lighthouse keepers´
residence and its facilities
Ulkokalla
is located on the open sea of the Gulf of Bothnia, about 22 km from
Kalajoki coast. In the
middle of the small islet there is a lighthouse and the former residence
of the lighthouse keepers. The house has been repaired into a hotel,
which has accommodation for 20 people altogether, in 9 rooms suitable for
1 to 3 people (no own shower or toilets). In the house there is also a
dining room, two rooms with fireplace, meeting room with white and flap
board, and sauna facilities.
The rooms
of the hotel are equipped ascetic but yet luxurious, respecting the
history and traditions of the house. The beds are most comfortable with
bed linens made of linen. The other conveniences fit to the environment as
well; the seawater is used to wash up, the sauna is warmed up by wood,
there is no water pipe or electricity on the islet. Lighting is solar
powered. Drinking water is
brought from the mainland. The privy (“outhouse”) is in a separate
building.
You can
buy soft drinks, sweets etc. on the island. We cannot sell alcoholic
beverages.
Remember
to book in advance, if you want to stay overnight or have your meals on
the islet!
Notice!
Customers
should always be prepared for longer stay on the island, due to the
unpredictable weather conditions that may detain the departure. Regularly
taken medicines should be taken with to last at least for a week, just in
case. For footwear we recommend firm shoes, absolutely no heels! Take with
you also some warm and wind stopping clothes, even in the summer. On the
sea the weather can be cold though it is warm on the mainland.
If the
wind is 5 bofor (10 m/s) or more, Ulkokalla cannot be reached. If the departure is
delayed due to the wind, accommodation for the extra nights will be free
of charge, full board 50 €/person/day.
Transportation to
Ulkokalla
We and our
partners will transport our customers direct to Ulkokalla from mainland by
the charter boat. The port of departure is the fishing port of
Konikarvo in Rahja, Kalajoki. Driving instructions: Drive
about 11 km south of centre of Kalajoki along the road 8,
and turn to harbour of Rahja (sign: Rahjan satama). Drive
about 2,5 km and turn left to the fishing port of
Konikarvo (sign: Kalasatama, Konikarvo). Drive about 2,5
km, the road ends to the fishing port. The boat depart
from the landing place F.
Notice, that you have to book in
advance, if you are coming to Ulkokalla!
